Woodland Indian Art, Inc. (WIA) has held an annual Woodland Indian Show and Market for the past 15 years. In 2022 WIA added a Woodland Design fashion show, featuring the collection of one designer. Due to its popularity, the show has continued to expand and this year we are pleased to feature collections created by six talented designers.
This year’s fashion show aims to celebrate and carry forward Woodland heritage through a stunning display of artistry and identity. This event intends to showcase elements of Woodland culture in fashion through use of both traditional and contemporary mediums including, but not limited to, intricate ribbon work, vibrant woodland florals, and materials specific to woodland culture. The show will follow the same theme as the Woodland Indian Art Show & Market (WIASM), Spirit of our Ancestors, honoring the deep connection to those who came before us.
A maximum of six designers will be selected for the fashion show. These selected designers will showcase their collection during the fashion show and they must also participate in the WIASM as an artist beginning Friday, November 1st through Saturday, November 2nd. The six selected designers will receive a booth/table enabling each participant to network and sell their art over the course of the two day event. Designers will have the option to enter up to three pieces in the juried art competition under the Apparel category for a chance to win prizes.
Each designer will receive an $800 honorarium to cover costs related to participation, a significant increase from previous years thanks to the generous support from our donors. WIA, Inc will cover the $200 booth fee on behalf of the selected fashion show designers for participating in the Art Show & Market, for a total investment of $1,000 in each designer. Please note, all designs included in the show should be new, original creations with a Woodland theme. Upcycling will be considered for a future show.
